Since Mark and I moved to Los Angeles, we’ve always enjoyed going to Culinary Historians of Southern California meetings, so it was a treat to talk to the group. Amazing that so many people turned out (at least 150!) on a sunny Saturday afternoon in L.A. for my Cookbook Tree presentation tracing how various genres of cookbooks developed over the centuries. For those who haven’t yet seen the tree, there’s a video recording of the presentation online.

I always like showing off this Isaac Cruikshank print of the capture of Louis XVI by revolutionary soldiers in 1791. The King was famous for gluttony and here he lingers over an enormous turkey, wine bottles at his feet, with fatal consequences!
